Our early assignments for Equador Consulting (at that time 'In Touch Associates') included rescuing a failed server and then upgrading the network and preparing it for the onset of rapid growth. Since that time back in 1997, Equador Consulting has grown to over 40 seats at its Richmond Head Office, and it now requires multiple File, Print, Messaging and Line Of Business servers to support Head Office and an array of European offices.

Today, we provide helpdesk and on-site support to both Head Office and European branch offices, high bandwidth Internet access and management of a Microsoft NT4 network running on Hewlett Packard servers and desktops and Compaq portable computers.

In 1997 Orbit Housing Association wanted to migrate their midlands Head Office and 12 regional offices to a directory based network with a single point of management, implement a scalable messaging and collaboration solution, and unified Internet access for their UK-wide WAN, they put the project out to competitive tender.

Once selected, we set about designing a Microsoft NT4-based domain structure with the Head Office at the centre of domain management. We chose Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Server as the basis of their messaging and collaboration solution. Subsidiary regional office servers replicate directory information from head office servers, enabling fully centralised administration, and leaving only authentication to local servers. To further reduce the cost of support, each server can be controlled remotely, facilitating quick maintenance, issue identification and diagnosis, and for most server-based problems a quick reactive fix. After rollout of each of the servers, we rolled out Microsoft Windows 98 desktops, upgrading and replacing PC hardware as required. First line support is handled jointly with Orbit Housing Association's internal IT department and we provide remote and on-site support to the head office and regional offices. Corporate Internet access is provided over a high bandwidth circuit through our in-house ISP service Alpha Internet.
